Introduction

The Silver Award builds on your Bronze experience or serves as a challenging entry point for those aged 15 and over. With longer time commitments and more demanding expeditions, Silver helps you develop greater independence and resilience.

What is the Silver Award?

The Silver Award takes your DofE experience to the next level. Whether you're progressing from Bronze or starting fresh, Silver offers greater challenges and deeper personal development opportunities.

Requirements

• Age: 15 years and over

• Minimum time: 6 months if you've completed Bronze, 12 months if you're starting directly at Silver

• Sections: Complete all four sections (Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition)

The Four Sections

1. Volunteering: Volunteer for 6 months (or 3 months if you've completed Bronze). Take on more responsibility, perhaps leading a project or mentoring others. This section helps you develop leadership skills and a deeper understanding of community needs.

2. Physical: Engage in physical activity for 6 months (or 3 months if you've completed Bronze). Push yourself further, perhaps trying a new sport or increasing the intensity of your current activity. Build strength, endurance, and mental resilience.

3. Skills: Develop a skill over 6 months (or 3 months if you've completed Bronze). Take your chosen skill to the next level, perhaps working towards a qualification or taking on a more complex project. This is about mastery and personal achievement.

4. Expedition: Complete a 3-day, 2-night expedition in wild country. You'll plan your route, navigate challenging terrain, and work as a team to complete your journey. This expedition is more demanding than Bronze, requiring greater planning, navigation skills, and resilience.
